About Positive Peace

To promote sustainable peace and development by empowering individuals and communities through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Understanding Positive Peace

More Than the Absence of War

Positive Peace refers to the attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies. It differs fundamentally from “negative peace,” which only refers to the absence of violence or armed conflict.

While negative peace can be fragile and temporary, Positive Peace focuses on building the long-term conditions for stability, resilience, and human flourishing. This systemic approach addresses root causes of conflict rather than merely treating symptoms.

Key Distinction

Negative Peace = absence of violence. Positive Peace = presence of the attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies.

Negative Peace

Absence of violence

  • Absence of direct violence or armed conflict
  • Fragile and often temporary
  • Treats symptoms, not root causes
  • Can be maintained by force or fear
  • Collapses when the force is removed
Positive Peace

Presence of justice & harmony

  • Presence of justice, opportunity, and harmony
  • Durable and self-reinforcing
  • Addresses the root causes of conflict
  • Built on trust, equity, and strong institutions
  • Grows stronger over time as systems improve
Who We Are

Our Mission & Vision

Mission

Our Mission

To promote sustainable peace and development by empowering individuals and communities through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

We work hands-in-glove with all stakeholders to empower youth, women, children and men on violence prevention, peacebuilding, human rights, good governance, gender equality, and environmental protection.

Vision

Our Vision

A society where peace is rooted in justice, equality, and harmonious coexistence between people and the environment.

We envision a Cameroonian and African society where peace is not merely the absence of war, but the active presence of social justice, dignity, and opportunity for all.
